A little bit about us

Gavin Knight CPA - Founder

True North Business Advisory is the brainchild of Gavin Knight, a CPA (Certified Practising Accountant) with nearly twenty-five years’ experience in small and medium businesses. Gavin has worked in many industries, including manufacturing, import and distribution, retail and transport, and logistics.

Gavin has lived the experience of working in small business, so he understands the challenges and stressors that affect many small business owners. More importantly, Gavin knows how to get through those challenges, using his strong planning skills to invigorate small business owners with information and actionable strategies. Gavin is articulate and considered. He’ll explain complex ideas in plain words, while offering a calm, steady hand in your business.

Gavin is also a long-suffering St Kilda supporter (Go Saints!), and a proud, loving father and husband. He’s been keeping it simple his whole career, and gained a reputation for being a straight shooter with unique insight and business acumen.

Gavin is also really passionate about standing up and stopping domestic violence. His family have a strong affinity with White Ribbon Australia, an organisation they support and promote. To find out more about how you can get involved, head to their website.

Our Approach

“Think a few steps ahead and you won’t trip over.”

In a business, planning is crucial. Planning brings the right people together at the right time to get the best from your business. It can also help to centralise your team, customers and suppliers. When all of these are in balance, things work beautifully. We can help get you ready for success, making sure your business is prepared to be profitable.

These 3 words are the backbone of our philosophy and approach

PLAN

When you take the time to plan, you benefit from thinking about what you need to do well to succeed, and what you need to avoid.  Planning forces you to ask questions and look for the best answer.

STRUCTURE

Structure helps your business to be efficient and effective.  Structure helps your staff understand how to perform, it helps your suppliers plan for what’s ahead, and it helps your customers feel valued and supported.  A bit of structure goes a long way in improving your business.

PROCESS

Building process into your business helps to get your business investor-ready.  Whether or not you plan to exit your business, being investor-ready is a worthy pursuit.  Thinking in somebody else’s shoes will help your business operate efficiently and profitably.

We foster planning, structure and process in each of the businesses we work with.
